Character Name: Link
Canon: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Age: Around 10-13 years old
Appearance: He's a short kid with yellow-blonde hair and pointy elf ears!
Canon Point: Right after his second visit to the Forsaken Fortress
History: Long ago, there was a land called Hyrule, a large kingdom run by the royal family. It had been under attack by an evil sorcerer named Ganondorf, who was trying to claim the Triforce, a sacred power that would grant the bearer anything his or her heart desired. A hero cloaked in green fought back against Ganondorf, and with the help of the Triforce of Courage and the six sages, he was able to defeat him and seal him away into another dimension known as the Sacred Realm. The hero then disappeared, never to be seen again.

An age of peace came over the land, and for many years, the people were happy and prosperous. However, over time, the seal on the Sacred Realm began to weaken and break. Ganondorf escaped, and ravaged the land once more, trying to take over Hyrule as its overlord. The people prayed for the return of the hero in green, but to no avail. He never returned, leaving only one more option. They sent their prayers instead to the Gods who created the land, begging them to stop Ganondorf and rescue their kingdom. The Gods had only one choice to keep Hyrule from Ganondorf's clutches: they decided they would flood Hyrule, burying it underneath an ocean. They sent the people to the highest mountain tops and brought rain down on Hyrule, sealing it and Ganondorf away for all of eternity.

A century or two passed and the people lived in peace on the mountain tops, which had now become islands scattered throughout the Great Sea. The legend of Hyrule passed down through the families to their children, and it became customary for young boys, when they reached a certain age, to dress in green garb and go exploring the sea, having adventures of their own.

One such boy was named Link, who lived on Outset Island. He, however, had never expected to go off on any big adventures, preferring to stay on Outset with his grandmother and younger sister. That is until, on his birthday, pirates had suddenly arrived, disturbing the peace at the quiet village, searching for their captain who had been kidnapped by a gargantuan bird. Link went searching for the captain and found her on the top of the mountain. The captain turned out to be a young girl around his age named Tetra. According to her, there had been several kidnappings across the sea of young girls with blonde hair and long, pointed ears like herself. As she and Link went to return to her boat, the bird who had previously kidnapped Tetra returned, this time swooping in and snatching Link's younger sister, Aryll. Devastated by her kidnapping, Link became determined to save her, setting out with the pirates to go and find her.

With the help of Tetra and her crew, Link broke into the fortress where Aryll was being held, sneaking past all manners of monsters. However, he'd been caught by the gigantic bird before he could save her and taken to its master, none other than Ganondorf himself, who ordered Link to be tossed far out to sea.

Link had been saved, though, by a talking red boat with a lion's head called the King of Red Lions. He bestowed upon Link a conductor's baton called the Wind Waker, which held many mystical properties that would help Link throughout his journey. The King then told Link he must find the Master Sword, the blade of evil's bane, in order to defeat Ganondorf, and Link set out on a long journey, one that was meant to prove his courage as the chosen hero. Once he passed the trials, Link was then granted access to the kingdom beneath the waves, Hyrule itself, sealed away and frozen in time. He found the sword within Hyrule Castle, and was able to pull it from its pedestal, the final trial that proved his identity as the chosen hero of legend.

With the sword in hand, Link traveled back to Ganondorf's fortress. Busting in and taking the offensive this time around, Link managed to save Aryll and finally face Ganondorf, with the help of Tetra and her pirate crew. When facing him, however, Link discovered that the Master Sword wasn't what it used to be, and that it had grown dull. He also learned that the Master Sword acted like a key, which sealed away a big chunk of Ganondorf's powers and froze Hyrule in time. When he pulled the sword form it's pedestal, Link broke that seal, returning Ganondorf's lost power.

Overpowered and knocked down, Ganondorf was about to take Link's life when Tetra jumped in and caught him by surprise, saving the young hero. Yet Ganondorf was not so easily deterred. As he was about to destroy her, suddenly his Triforce of Power began to resonate, responding to Tetra. It turned out that Tetra was the girl he was looking for, the descendant of the Princess Zelda and bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom. Before Ganondorf could take her or Link, however, Komali and Quill, two friends Link met on his journey who were members of the bird race called the Rito, swooped in and grabbed the pair, flying away with them. (This is the point from which I'm taking Link.) Valoo, their dragon deity, then burned Ganondorf's fortress.

The group flew back to the portal that lead to Hyrule under the discretion of the King of Red Lions. He spoke with Valoo and the two agreed that Ganondorf had only been delayed, not stopped for good, and that Tetra was no longer safe on the seas now that her identity had been revealed. The King of Red Lions asked Link to return with Tetra down to the underwater kingdom and go back to where he found the Master Sword. Down in the basement of Hyrule Castle where the Master Sword had been, Link and Tetra discovered a tall man wearing a crown. He revealed himself to be the King of Hyrule, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, or as Link had known him, the King of Red Lions.

The King explained to the pair that Tetra was indeed the Princess Zelda, descendant of the royal family, and that the pendant she held around her neck was a piece of the Triforce of Wisdom. The other piece was in the hands of the King, and when he put the two pieces together, Tetra reverted to her true form as the Princess Zelda. The King told her that it wasn't safe for her to be seen and that to protect her, they'd have to seal her in the basement where Ganondorf couldn't find her. She reluctantly agreed, and the King and Link returned to the surface to figure out their next course of action.

The King told Link that the reason the Master Sword must have lost its power was because the two Sages who were supposed to send prayers it, the Sage of Wind and the Sage of Earth, were killed by Ganondorf. It was then Link's job to find the new Sages who carried the bloodline of the old Sages and awaken them and take them to their respective temples to pray. Link found out that these sages happened to be Medli, a Rito, who was the new Sage of Earth, and Makar, a Korok, a small woodsprite who was the new Sage of Wind. Using the Wind Waker, Link was able to awaken them and guide them through their temples, returning power to the Master Sword.

The final step to defeating Ganondorf was to find the Triforce of Courage, which the previous hero had broken into eight pieces and scattered across the land, now at the bottom of the ocean. Link had to first find maps that lead to these pieces, then pull them up from the bottom of the ocean, a long and laborious task that finally paid off when he assembled the full Triforce. Choosing him as its master, the Triforce merged with Link and appeared on his hand, granting him access back down to Hyrule. The King named Link the Hero of Winds and the two traveled back to Hyrule Castle.

When they arrived, however, Link discovered that the castle was ruined, and that Ganondorf had broken into the basement and kidnapped Tetra. Determined to save her and defeat Ganondorf, Link broke the barrier surrounding Ganondorf's undersea castle with his renewed Master Sword and busted in by force. Fighting his way through, Link found the princess with Ganondorf, and together, the two of them were able to defeat him once and for all. However, the King had decided that instead of restoring Hyrule to the way it was before, the reason the Gods had preserved it and frozen it in time in the first place, he would flood it.

The King admitted that it was his selfish desire to retrieve his kingdom that had caused Ganondorf's rise to power once more. Flooding it would seal away Ganondorf and the kingdom he so desired for the rest of eternity. He sent Link and Tetra back to the surface, asking that they leave this place behind and find another land to become the new Hyrule. The pair took Tetra's pirate crew and heeded his wishes, setting off to explore the Great Sea.

Personality: First and foremost, Link is a child at heart. He is a very happy and naive kid who knew very little about the world outside of his island, aside from news the postman brought back from the other islands on the sea. He enjoys his life on Outset Island, and leisurely takes naps up on the observatory deck when not taking care of his grandmother and little sister. When he's suddenly thrust into an adventure that calls him to rise up to the task of responsibility, Link definitely isn't prepared.
Still learning how to use a sword, and all too quick to trust a band of pirates he only just met, it's clear that Link is way in over his head when he first sets out on his journey. He overestimates his own abilities and doesn't even begin to comprehend the dangers that await him, clumsily sneaking into Ganondorf's fortress only to be caught before he can do anything to help his sister.
Realizing that Link is still a young hero, the King of Red Lions is the one who gives Link guidance that helps him grow throughout the course of his journey. He encourages Link to stay brave and teaches him to be clever, believing that he has the power to persevere through any dangers. Link takes this to heart, and it shows when he is able to stay calm in the face of enemies perhaps thirty times larger than he is. He realizes that some things, such as the safety and protection of others, are more important than his own fear, and thus abandons it altogether.
Link is incredibly quick to make friends, even trying his best attempts to make friends with those who might not want anything to do with him, such as Prince Komali. It's his courageous deeds and efforts that draw people to him, and even cold-hearted Komali comes around and follows Link's example of bravery in the end. Word of his kindness is spread across the sea, and he becomes especially popular with both the Rito and the Koroks.
Link is also quick to forgive and doesn't hold grudges against those who are sorry for their actions. When Tetra apologizes to Link for putting him through so much pain and trouble by bringing her pirates to his quiet island and then hardly caring about his well-being, Link immediately assures her that there are no hard feelings and that he cares to have her as his friend. He just laughs and shrugs it off, only hoping to see her stay safe.
Despite his inexperience, Link's determination to help others is what always drives him forward. At first it's saving his sister that keeps him going, but he finds that he is able to help others along the way and takes joy in making the people around him happy. Eventually he grows to love the prospect of travelling the world and saving others, becoming a true adventurer and hero at heart. This desire to be a hero, along with his more mature personality, is what makes him decide to leave Outset Island for good.

Abilities: Link is a skilled swordsman who trained under the swordsmaster Orca at his home on Outset Island. He's strong enough to slay hoards of monsters, as well as clever enough to take on things much, much larger than himself.
He has no direct magical abilities, but he is able to wield the Wind Waker quite skillfully. Conducting certain songs, Link can change the direction of the wind, change day to night, command others with a psychic bond (with their permission), and even control cyclones. He must have the Wind Waker with him, however, to perform these feats.

First Person: [Link fumbles a bit with his ring, pressing down on the gem stone to activate it and pull up the network. He scans it with his eyes, a bit daunted by the magical technology he's never witnessed before, but determined to figure this out. Right, "video", how did he activate this moving and talking pictograph thing again? Link fiddles some more, until he thinks he finally gets it to work.]

Uhh, hey everyone. My name's Kaze. Is this thing working right? [Link leans in and squints at the network projected before him, his face getting large on camera. He leans back, deciding it couldn't hurt to keep talking even if it wasn't turned on.] I just wanted to say, I know we're all a little lost and confused, but don't worry! This place doesn't seem so bad, right? We've got food, clothes, and a place to stay, it could be worse! All you have to do is stay positive. I'm sure we'll get out of here in no time. You can count on me to help you out if you get into any trouble, alright? [He beams a big and confident grin for all to see.] It's best if we all try and be friends, after all. So, how is everyone else holding up so far?

Third Person: Today was the day. Link had finally saved up enough to buy back another one of his long lost items, the telescope he'd had with him since the very start of his quest. For some reason, it was incredibly important to him, though he couldn't remember why. All he knew, was that he had to get it back.

His hands shook as he produced the money he'd earned from the long and hard labor at the bathhouse. The coins threatened to fall from his fingers as he offered the money up, eyes wide and mouth dry. "The telescope, please, the one with the seagulls," Link murmured. "Yes, I'm sure."

With just enough to buy it, Link took the telescope, palms wrapped tightly around it. For a moment, nothing happened. All he could feel was overwhelming relief, and incredible joy. It was finally back! He finally got it back! His smile grew wide as he stretched it out, looking through the lens which magnified his surroundings.

'Okay, big bro, you can borrow it a little longer, but you have to promise to give it back to me!'

Link paused, the voice in his head crystal clear. With it, came a face, a little girl with blonde hair in pigtails, and a name. Aryll. This telescope had belonged to his sister, Aryll. How did he forget that? He'd been trying to save her life, hadn't he? Was she alright, did he accomplish it?? The young hero pressed his warm palm to his forehead, trying to get it all to come back. He didn't know forgetting could hurt so much...
